Many Homes Are Facing Huge Concerns Over Oil Delays

The snow and ice that covered the United Kingdom over Christmas has left many people without oil. Thousands of customers were left unreachable because of the extremely hazardous road conditions and oil suppliers were completely unprepared for the way the weather hit many parts of the country.

Pensioners already face many hardships during the winter with the cost of fuel so high. But there could be deadly consequences if they were to be left for any length of time with no oil. But even those customers who had ordered their oil before the cold weather set in were forced to wait for over a month for their oil.

One example of a pensioner left without oil was Mrs. Clare Stott, 87, from Woodstock. Even though Mrs. Stott placed her order before the snowfall, she was without oil for over a month as it was too difficult for the oil delivery trucks to get to her. This could have been disastrous if it weren’t for the help of her neighbour, Chris Pomfrett. Mr. Pomfrett provided Mrs. Stott with 25 litres of oil which would tide her over until her oil could be delivered. But unfortunately Mrs. Stott is not an exception but is one of many customers affected by the freezing weather. It has become almost impossible for many homes to be reached due to the treacherous road conditions.

Mr. Pomfrett runs a company which buys oil and then sells it on to consumers at discounted prices. His not-for-profit business helps hundreds of customer’s access cheaper oil. He has blamed oil companies for the lack of support provided to their most helpless customers. He suggested that smaller amounts of oil could have been sent to the most needy customers if the oil companies had used 4×4 trucks.

The oil delays have not only affected pensioners across the country. Many homes with newborns and those will sick people really should not be without oil during these harsh conditions. However the oil companies have stated that they are doing their very best to get oil to their most needy customers.

Some people spend a lot of money heating their homes in the winter. Electricity and gas prices are very high and show no signs of coming down any time soon. Many individuals are now changing over to cheaper home heating oil though. And when this happens they have to ensure the tanks re always full of cheapest heating oil to make sure they don’t run dry in the cold weather.
